Imperial Oil is currently looking for a Tailings Engineer in support of the Kearl Oilsands Mine. They will be responsible for high standard of technical deliverables and recommendations in various functions in the organization, including oversight, inclusion and mentoring of junior engineers. This role is for a tailings planner supporting the development and execution of the mid-range tailings plan. This includes cross functional engagement with multiple technical, projects and operations teams. The successful candidate will join the Kearl team as we begin the startup of our new in-pit tailings facility as well as integrating future mine plans with subsequent tailings infrastructure projects. Their accountabilities also include continuous improvement of current work practices and ensuring alignment across functions through appropriate change management and communication processes.QualificationsAcademic:Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil or Engineering or equivalent.Other:5 years of relevant experience in Oilsands Tailings Planning is requiredSurface mine experience required including but not limited to modeling and design, material balances and scheduling, performance evaluation and data analytics, tailings operations support and execution planning, closure and tailings managementPrevious field experience in active mine operations preferredMust demonstrate safety leadershipMust demonstrate a passion and the ability to lead, train and mentor othersMust demonstrate the ability to work in multidiscipline teams crossing various functionsMust be able to communicate effectively, interact and influence without authority through all levels of an organization including technical functions, operational personnel and contractorsStrong organizational skills, practical problem-solving skills and continuous improvement through critical thinkingAbility to use or learn AutoCAD, Deswik, Muk3D or other planning softwareProficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsStart date: Q3, 2023
